Contents Page

This is my contents page:

Images - I have decided to include images of Abbie, Chloe and Georgina to create an interest in the reader by making them see the pictures and want to know what they are about. I chose them three pictures as they suited what they are being used for, and I edited Abbie's picture to make it look like a album cover so that it links to the page containing 'UK Top 40 Albums'. I included the page numbers under the picture so the audience doesn't have to look through the whole magazine to find that article.

Page Numbers -  I have included the page numbers down the left side of the page to make it look neat and professional. There are page numbers as I didn't include the adverts and posters in the contents page because it would of been too crowded, unprofessional and not what the readers are interested in.

Font - I decided to use that font as it was the same one that I used for the title/masthead of the magazine so it linked to the front cover. I made the font size 25 so that it filled up the page but wasn't too small or too big.

Front Cover

This is my final front cover for my music magazine, I will be explaining my likes and dislikes and will be asking my target audience to comment on it and suggest improvements.

Masthead - I chose the name Strings as it gave the right impression of my magazine, as it is a country magazine and most country artists can play guitars and guitars are linked with country music. I also chose this name as it was the most popular on my questionnaire and it was the title I most liked out of the options. In the background I have placed the guitar frets and strings to add to the effect of the masthead, I also decided to use it in the background as it makes it stand out and noticeable.

Slogan - I have decided to include a short punchy slogan to make the magazine more appealing, as that one line gives the audience an insight to what can be expected from inside the magazine. Not many country magazines have slogans so i thought by including one my magazine would be different from others, making it unique.

Price - I have decided to place the price in the top right hand corner as according to the 'z rule'  this would be second place the readers eyes will look when picking up the magazine, so hopefully the reader will see that the magazine is a reasonable price for the content of the magazine and be more inclined to buy the magazine.

Main Image - The main image that I have used doesn't have any major connection with the genre - country, I decided to use this picture as it was good quality and a mid shot image. I liked the picture as Rebecca was looking right down the camera creating a connection with the person reading the magazine and the artist.

Barcode - The barcode is placed at the bottom right hand corner of the front cover, so according to the 'z rule' it is the last thing that the readers eyes will look at, so it wont distract/obscure the readers eye line.

Sell Lines - I have included sell lines so the reader can see what is included in the magazine and giving them a quick insight to what expect, helping the audience decided whether they would be interested in buying the magazine.

Layout - I like the layout of my magazine as it isn't too crowded/busy but there is enough information to entice the reader to buy the magazine.

Puff - I have included a puff on the front of my music magazine as it gives a little bit of information/an insight to want you should expect in the magazine, I have used the word 'you' to make it more personal and create a connection with the reader. I have said 'keep warm while you listen with these must haves!!' i used the words 'while you listen' to tie into the magazine genre.

Double Page Spread Research

On this double page spread and many others that I have seen there is a big main image and little individual pictures on either the right or left hand page of the artist or artists. This is effective as they generally use a photo shoot image and then general day to day images around the edge presenting what the artist is really like.

The article is a interview with the band, where the band are just answering simple questions in which the interviewer has either asked their fan base to ask questions or just general questions in which the interviewer has been given by the magazine writer/editor.

It has used different font styles to create a different effects on the reader. They have also used different coloured fonts to show different parts of the interview. They have used dark colours to portray the type of genre of music in which the 'all american rejects' are.

In the image she is covering herself up, as there is quite a lot of skin showing, while looking very seductively down the camera. In the image she has chains around her denoting that she is somehow chained up/to something or may be being controlled.

The double page spread from Q magazine has a simple and typical layout with the main image on the left hand side of the page and the article on the right hand side of the page. This is the type of layout I would use for my magazine because its conventional I would like to used this type of layout but i would like to add other pictures like the previous double page spread. Q has Lady Gaga on the left page of the double page spread which dominates the whole page rather than the text, which shows the audience a medium shot of her.

Photo Shoot

These are some of the pictures I took during my photo shoot. I will be writing what i like and dislike about each picture and whether I will be using them in my magazine and where. I have not included all the pictures I took and may be using as there was too many so this is a selection.

I like this picture of me and Georgina, as it shows a jokey side to the artists, I lighting is right on this picture as it has a good light and dark contrast. I was able to take this picture thanks to the timer feature on the camera I used and i also propped it on the side to get the right height to the picture. I may use this picture in my magazine as its has an over all good look about it.

I wont be using this picture in my music magazine, as the lighting and camera angle is wrong, so it is too dark and shading and not portraying the look of the artist in which I want.

I like this picture as it is bright and Georgina is looking right done the camera, the mise en scene is good as it is a clear background, the fur of the hood is in the right place and neat. It will be placed along the bottom of my front cover as one of my posters or in my fashion 'bubble'.

I like this picture as it is bright and Rebecca is smiling but the mise en scene and her posture isn't as good as the previous picture, so i wont be using this picture in my magazine
as its doesn't connote the right type of sense for my magazine.

I don't like this picture as the is no interaction with the camera and she isn't holding the chord in which I wanted and the posture of her shoulders isn't right. I wont be using this picture in my magazine.

I like this picture of Rebecca as she is looking straight at the camera in a mid shot position instantly catching your eye, with this picture I'm not sure whether I like the mise en scene of it as I'm not sure that I like the lamp being in the background so if I used this picture I may take away the background and replace it with a plain white background. I like the expression in which Rebecca is holding as it presents to the reader that she is relaxed, happy and content.

I like this picture as Georgina has a lot of expression on her face, even though it doesn't look very serious. I may use this picture on my double page spread. I like the lighting on this picture as it looks bright and the background is very clear. It connotes that she is in the zone/into the song/playing the guitar.
